Mac OSX (and Windows 7) on Samsung NC10: installation guide!
Pubblicato: 25 November 2008, 11:06 am Add comments
NOTE: MAC OSX ON SAMSUNG NC10 installation process is the same as for MSI WIND (except some configuration). So I have utilized this excellent guide of Chreller with some “integration”.
Why use Chreller guide? because “you won’t need a usb-dvd” (I use only pen drive to change boot partion after process).
This guide integrates also suggest of (another member of MSI WIND FORUM) XEN about boot change (I tested this ) and network installation driver (but I didn’t tested this).

MAC OSX (and Windows 7) INSTALLATION GUIDE
- PART ONE: MAC OSX INSTALL - (first revision)
********************************************
INÂ black ORIGINAL GUIDEÂ BY CHRELLER (and XEN)
IN REDÂ my modifications to Chreller process
Â
Â
Things you need:
1. A Msi Wind running xp, (you don’t need a real mac.)
(NOTE FOR NC10:Â SAMSUNG NC10 for us of course
)
2. The MSIwindosx86.iso
(NOTE FOR NC10: it’s good also for us!)
3. partition software (I use partition Magic)
(NOTE FOR ALL: in Windows XP exists disk management utility. Go in “Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer management -> Disk management”)

4. Leopard hd install helper http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?s=af9eb077adf4a3dd67ecdca502755115&act=attach&type=post&id=29565
5. UNetbootin - Universal Netboot Installer (download)
6. Parted Magic (download)
7. Windows 7 iso (6801 version) + this application for unlocking every Protected Features of Seven
When you have downloaded all these things, and have them installed on your wind we are ready to begin.
Partitioning your drive:
What we are going to do
1. You delete all partitions Also the recovery partition! (except your windows partition)
(NOTE FOR ALL: It’s not necessary delete recovery partition. Instead it’s better to mantain it)
2. You create a primary fat32 partition, and label it “OSX” You decide how much space you are going to give your osx partition (at least 15 gb).
3. Then you create a logical fat32 partition and label it “install” (Make this a 4gb partition.)
Now we are going to use the Leopard hd install helper.
1. Open the file called ddmac.exe:

2. Push this button.

3. Find your MSIwindosx86.iso and open it.

4. Choose the partition you labeled “install”. Then push the button and wait(ca. 10min.)

5. Your now finished using the Leopard hd install helper.

Reboot and follow my guide on youtube.
Part1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KRSb_rnnCgg
Part2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jn15NLDRL20
Or follow this text-Guide
1. Reboot then choose “MAC OS X System”
2. Choose “MAC OS X Install DVD Slipstream”
(NOTE FOR ALL: I repeat process because first time it stops for unknow reason!)
3. Now your in the installer choose english as your language.
4. Click on the Utilities and choose diskutility.
5. Choose the partition you labeled “OSX”
6. Click the erase button and change the format from “MS-DOS”
to “MAC OSX extended (journaled)” and format the partition.
7. Now quit the DiskUtility and go back to the language chooser
8. Then click continue untill you reach the screen where you have to
choose your partition (Choose the partition you labeled “OSX”)
NOW, from here, NC10 MACOSX installation process differs from MSI WIND procedure
9. Before you click install go into Customize and uncheck the kernel. (for MSI WIND)
No, for NC10 IÂ mantain checked everything (also kernel). It’s all enabled for my NC10.
MSI WIND uncheck kernel didn’t working for me (I try several times but results are always the same…)
This the most important difference I found between MSI WIND and NC10.
10. Now click install and wait untill the installer reboots your wind.
11. Now, when you reboot, you will have HFS+ PROBLEM and your netbook won’t reboot correctly.
Why: because Mac OSX changed your bootable partition.
Solution A: change your bootable partition with LINUX (don’t worry it’s very very simple).
(GO TO MAC OSX INSTALLATION PART TWO)
Solution B: put your USB KEY with Windows Seven and install it. At the end of process Seven will change bootable partition automatically
(GO TO MAC OSX INSTALLATION PART THREE)
NOTE: I have tried only one (the first), but I believe that second would “work” fine (and if you want also Windows 7 on your netbook it’s more practical.. but.. I DIDN’T TRY IT SO I DON’T KNOW: USE AT YOUR RISK).

MAC OSX (and Windows 7) INSTALLATION GUIDE
- PART TWO: RESOLVE MAC OSX BOOT PROBLEM -
********************************************************************
This part was written in a comment by XEN and works fine for me. I try several solutions (and many downloads), but… this is quicker!
[Sure! I'm using Parted Magic, it's only ~50 MB so hopefully you have a spare USB key/SD card around to put it on, if not you can burn a CD copy (assuming you have a USB drive to use with your Wind of course). There's a guide here for getting it onto a USB stick and making it bootable (same applies to putting it on an SD card): http://partedmagic.com/wiki/PartedMagic.php?n=PartedMagic.CreatingTheMedia]
NOTE FOR ALL: process for creating a bootable USB stick with Parted Magic:
a) download UNetbootin - Universal Netboot Installer (download) and put it in a folder “LIVE LINUX” on your desktop
b) download Parted Magic (download) and decompress it in the same folder
c) Execute “unetbootin-windows-299.exe” and:
- check second option and choose path of Parted Magic ISO
- in the last box, select USB stick or pendrive

d) wait until process finish
Now, boot your NC10 (or Wind) from USB stick (do you know how boot a pc from USB? go in BIOS and change BOOT OPTIONS).
You will enter in first screen of Parted Magic: hit ENTER (default options works fine for me) for the first, space for the second if you don’t want to wait.
Now follow XEN instructions:
1. Once you get the desktop up run ROXTerm (you should see it on the desktop).
2. At the prompt type ‘cfdisk’.
3. You should see a menu listing your partitions, in the Flags column you’ll see ‘Boot’ next to your OS X partition (if you’re getting the HFS+ errors). This’ll be listed as an ‘Unknown (AF)’ partition, you should be able to tell which one it is by the size.
4. Use the down arrow to highlight this partition (the currently bootable one).
5. [Bootable] should already be highlighted in the command bar at the bottom of the screen (use left/right to select it if it isn’t), hit enter, the boot flag next to the OS X partition should disappear.
6. Move the cursor up to your XP partition (should be second, NTFS partition of 40GB unless you’ve played with the disk structure) and hit enter to set the Bootable flag against that one.
7. Now use right to move the command cursor all the way along to ‘Write’ and hit enter.
8. Type ‘yes’, after a short pause it’ll say it’s saved the changes but can’t re-read the new table; don’t worry about this.
9. Choose quit from the command bar, type ‘exit’ at the prompt to close the terminal.
10. Go to ‘Start’ bottom left and choose ‘Logout’ and reboot.
When the Wind (or NC10) reboots (and assuming you used the Leopard HD installer with all the options ticked to set the boot.ini, etc) you should get the XP boot menu asking if you want XP or OS X.
If you choose XP it should start right up, if you choose OS X you’ll get the Darwin bootloader and a 5 second timeout. Interrupt the timeout and select your OS X partition from the menu that pops up, that should get you into OS X.
Note: once you’ve got into OS X you can alter the setup so that the Darwin partition is bootable directly rather than having to go via the XP bootloader each time. You just have to download Chameleon, install to your OS X partition, reset the Boot flag back to the OS X partition.
YOU HAVE DONE!!!!

MAC OSX (and Windows 7) INSTALLATION GUIDE
- PART THREE:Â INSTALL MAC OSXÂ NETWORK DRIVERÂ -Â
********************************************************************
UNDER WORK -> follow XEN SUGGESTS here
 Â
********************************************************************
MAC OSX (and Windows 7) INSTALLATION GUIDE
- PART FOUR:Â INSTALLÂ WINDOWS SEVENÂ -Â
********************************************************************
UNDER WORK -> but very simple:
- dowload windows seven 6801
- decompress ISO in one folder on your desktop
- format a USB PENDRIVE
- Put Seven Files on your pendrive
- boot NC10 from USB
- follow boot process and choose CUSTOM INSTALLATION
- when it asks location to install, you have to delete INSTALL PARTITION OF OSX -it’s the last one- be carefully don’t delete OSX instead.
- begin installation process
-Â when finish installation use this patch to unlock protected features of SevenÂ
Â
Â
Obviusly follow this guide at your risk. I don’t guaranteed anything. It works for my NC10!

it worked for my nc10!!! thanks!!!
i didnt even need step two - after installation osx booted just fine
but i got another problem: i saw the intro, the language chooser and the screen “do you already own a mac?”. from that point on my nc10 always rebooted. but theres a simple solution for that on http://www.insanelymac.com/for.....opic=69878 (post from j0bb13)
now everythings fine
Any idea why I haven’t sound???
I have installed CHUD application and select internal speakers.
But I have no sound.
Thankyou
Joan
@kagliostro
sorry, i meant i have no mac to synchronye like i think the most of us
@Furtano: unluckily I have not another MAc to try sincronize. So It’s impossible for me help you. But I can tell you one thing: in these months I saw that Mac on Samsung works well, but it’s impossible to obtain a real copy of a MAC OS system with every features as syncronitation.
But you can try to ask help here: they are more updated of me.
OK, ok… I finally found the PDF guide.
Partitions done under Windows XP.
Mac OS up and running but without sound.
I have to find why I haven’t sound?
Joan
I can’t ^^ i mean ^^
I done it step for step.
If Mac OS boots he shows the welcome video and ask me for synchronizing with other Macs.
But I can synchronyse. So I chose he should create the settings. But if I press continue he plays the Welcome video again and shows the synchronism options again and so on. Its like a loop, I can get further than that.
What version of Partition Magic did you used?
Did you do the partitions under Windows XP or did you use a boot cd / boot pen drive?
I’m trying to do the partitions under Win XP but when I start Partition Magic 8 portable I get an error 117.
Anyone knows waht happens???
Thankyou
Joan
Hello Ferdy!
I believe next version are more complete.
You can follow this tread that is more updated than mine!
Hi!
Hi, yout guide worked for me, but i can’t get ethernet to work at first, and usb bluetooth works first time and then it gets permanently off.
Any chance to get an updated mac os x? using software update breaks the installation and it doesn’t boot anymore.
Thanks
Hell Pyyro: if you prefer, we can speak english (bad, but if for you it’s more simple we can try
)
Yes, install Windows Seven it’s more simple than mac osx:
1) complete format in FAT32 of your pendrive and select “PREDEFINITE ALLOCATION SIZE” in Dimension of allocation unity
2) use POWERISO to EXTRACT IMAGE of WINDOWS SEVEN in PENDRIVE
3) Go on NC10 and boot via USB
Where installation process fails for you?
NOTE: I have used this torrent to download. My ISO is 2.646.769.243 byte.
we have same ISO?

Dopo quel “papiro” ho stramazzato 5 giorni.
